The list of suicide prevention and intervention trainings can serve as a guide for Indiana graduating teachers who are completing their requirements for licensure - (Indiana requires a course in suicide prevention – House Senate Bill 4 - IC20-18-2-22(b)). These programs also offer training for teachers seeking and/or needing continuing education units (CEU’s) or professional growth points (PGP’s). (Suicide prevention / intervention is one of the continuing education topics for current teachers). To locate the training of your choice near you go to the websites provided and ask for the contact information for the State of Indiana. Additionally, a college campus counseling program may have an individual trained in suicide prevention who could provide a workshop. Local suicide prevention councils also sponsor various trainings (a listing of local councils contact information is available at the IPFW Behavioral Health and Family Studies Institute http://new.ipfw.edu/behavioral/ and at Mental Health America of Greater Indianapolis http://www.mhaindy.net/). You can also find a host of other resources at the National Suicide Prevention Resource Center (http://www.sprc.org/).
