The Assistant Chief of Staff / Communications and Information Systems coordinates for the Superintendent all matters regarding the electronic communications and information technology needs of the Department.
With delegated authority from the Superintendent over Communications and Information Systems, among several other responsibilities the Assistant Chief of Staff / Communications and Information Systems develops communications system plans, orders, and SOPs, and identifies communications requirements and priorities through close and continual coordination with the Assistant Chief of Staff / Operations. He analyzes courses of action to determine supportability from a communications and information systems perspective, and advises the staff on the technical and operational aspects of communications system employment.
He also plans and supervises the installation, operation, and maintenance of communications networks, overseeing the management of radio frequency assignments, and provides local and wide area network (LAN/WAN) management, including Internet protocol address and routing management. He coordinates with the Assistant Chief of Staff / Logistics for the supply and maintenance of communications system.
Additionally, the Assistant Chief of Staff / Communications and Information Systems implements system security procedures in coordination with the other staff sections. He establishes liaison with other local, state, and Federal agencies regarding communication and information systems, and ensures compliance with interoperability and security standards, in particular the FBI's Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) Security Policy. In this capacity, he serves as the State's representative on the FBI CJIS Advisory Policy Board (APB), and as the chairman of the Indiana Data and Communication System (IDACS) Committee.
