Join us in Legacy Theater: The Indiana African American Experience, for a look at Indiana's African American history. The theater features performances as well as exhibits. The themed theatrical performances, along with artifacts, images, historical text and interactive video, provide a diverse cultural experience of black heritage in Indiana from the early 1800s to the present day. The theater explores the ideas of citizenship, freedom and culture through topics such as slavery and emancipation, political advancement, economics and the importance of family and community.

Legacy Theater is brought to life by the Legacy Theater Troupe, a group of talented performers who portray historical and fictional characters related to the African American experience in Indiana.  Legacy Theater features several performance areas from a front porch to rows of churh legacy_church.jpgpews in which troupe members put on their shows.  Legacy Theater Troupe Presents is offered Wendesdays through Sundays, but historical characters can also often be found throughout the galleries sharing their stories with guests.

Located just off the museum's Canal-level Gov. Frank O'Bannon Great Hall, Legacy Theater exhibits are open during regular museum hours.

Check our Calendar of Events for the performance schedule.

Performance days and times are subject to change without notice. Theater seating is limited to 45 people per performance.

Please note that Legacy Theater is closed during March for installation of Heritage Spectrum, which opens on April 1.
