Background

For the past several years, the Indiana State Department of Health Immunization Program has completed assessments in each of the 94 local health departments and in a majority of non-health department public providers throughout Indiana. With each successive assessment cycle, findings demonstrate a gradual improvement of immunization coverage levels among two-year old children seen by these providers. The majority of public providers in Indiana have immunized more than 85% of their two-year old patients. Such findings show that these providers are working diligently to help achieve what should be an immunization program's primary goal: to reduce the incidence of vaccine-preventable disease.
