PURPOSE OF THE INDIANA STATE OFFICE OF RURAL HEALTH
The purpose of the Indiana State Office of Rural Health is to
support community-based systems of comprehensive primary health care and training of
primary health care providers to serve in rural areas.
COMPONENTS OF THE LOCAL LIAISON OFFICE
Operation of the Indiana State Office of Rural Health involves the following major
responsibilities:
- Preparation of grant renewal applications.
- Research for innovative approaches to the delivery of health care throughout Indiana's
rural areas.
- Provision of technical assistance for the development of rural health clinic and
training centers, nurse-managed clinics, and other models of care.
- Establish and maintain a clearinghouse for collecting and disseminating information on
rural health care issues.
- Development of rural health reports and other "deliverables" pursuant to the
objectives of grant.
- Promote activities which support the recruitment and retention of health care
professionals to serve in rural areas.
- Coordination of annual Indiana Rural Health Association Conference.
- Oversee particular state- and federally-funded grant projects pertaining to rural
health.
- Assist ISDH Primary Health Care Cooperative Agreement and Local Liaison Office.
- Provide technical support to other ISDH program areas concerning rural health issues.
SPECIAL PROJECTS AND INITIATIVES
- Rural Health Curriculum Track developed for medical students
of the Indiana University Medical School to provide additional exposure to health care in
rural settings implimintation
- Development of the Indiana Rural Health Association
- Support Rural Health Care/Training Centers in Petersburg,
Clay City and Worthington communities.
- Planning Randolph County, Greene County, Crawford
County(RHC/TCs) grants
