GROUP 5 WATERWAYS

All fish from the following waters are under a Group 5 advisory. DO NOT EAT FISH CAUGHT IN THESE WATERS BECAUSE OF THE HIGH LEVELS OF CONTAMINATION.

"IMPORTANT"

If you don't know the safety of fish
in the lake or river you are fishing:

-     Assume that the fish are in a Group 2 advisory.
-     Read the Health Risk section of this advisory.
-     Follow the preparation and cooking instructions in this advisory.

Not all sizes of fish shown in this booklet may be legal to catch and keep.  Consult the current Indiana Fishing Regulations.

Please follow the instructions listed below carefully since meal advice will depend on the species and size of fish.  It is very important that pregnant women, nursing mothers, women who may become pregnant in the next several years, and children under the age of 15 follow the recommendations in this advisory.

1.    Measure the fish from the tip of the nose to the end of the tail fin.

2.    Find the table showing your fishing location.   Look for the symbol showing the type of contaminant and the size of the fish that you caught.  If there is no listing for the size of fish that you caught, larger fish are likely to e as contaminated, or more than any that were tested.  If you do not find the species of fish on the advisory, similar fish may or may not be less contaminated.

3.    Use the Advisory Group chart to guide you in the number of meals you eat on any one particular fish.  Fish may have been tested for more than one contaminant.  However, the symbol indicates the contaminant of greatest concern.

4.    In this advisory, one meal is assumed to be 1/2 pound (8 ounces) of precooked fish for a 150-pound person.  Subtract or add 1 ounce of fish for every 20 pounds of body weight; for example, one meal is assumed to be 7 ounces for a 130-pound person and 9 ounces for a 170-pound person.

PLEASE NOTE

Fish are tested regularly only in areas where there is suspected contamination.  The advisory is updated each spring, but is subject to change at any time.  The information here is the most current advisory available at press time.  If you have questions, call the Indiana State Department of Health at (317) 233-7808.
