Action Item #1: Know your numbers. Visit your doctor for a yearly checkup and be aware of your cholesterol levels, blood pressure, and other indicators of heart health.

As a woman of INFluence, it is important that you lead by example by living a healthy life.  Improving your personal health begins with getting a checkup.   During a checkup, your doctor takes a careful look at your "numbers," including your cholesterol and triglyceride levels, your blood pressure and more. Knowing your numbers is an important part of keeping your heart healthy. It can help you and your doctor know your risks and mark the progress you're making toward a healthier you.

To get a quick overview of numbers you need to know and the goals you need to reach, start by printing this Know Your Numbers chart, from the American Heart Association. Knowing your numbers is critical for understanding your risk factors and what areas of your health that need improvement. Once you know your numbers, you have a baseline assessment of the current state of your heart, and you can track your progress through future checkups.

As you work on Action Item #1, it is important to remember that screenings and routine care can help you lower your risk of many health conditions, including heart disease. Take action, schedule an appointment for a preventive health screening today and know your numbers!  Click here to access a chart that will help you determine what preventative screenings and immunizations you need at different ages.
