Goal:

Assist women and their families to control fertility and to improve clients' reproductive and general health through a family planning program.

Extent of Problem:

  • Low income women of childbearing age are at high risk for unplanned pregnancies.

  • Sexually transmitted diseases and other health problems are of great concern.

Objectives:

  • Provide clients with physical exams, family planning counseling, and contraceptive supplies.

  • Provide additional services including nutritional assessment and counseling, psychosocial assessment, counseling and referral, and health education covering a variety of topics such as self-breast exams and sexually transmitted diseases.

Funding:

The Maternal and Child Health Block Grant provides partial funding for 7 family planning projects serving approximately 12,000 women.
