The Community Health Educator/ Community Lay Health Worker AmeriCorps Program at the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) strives to empower children, families, and communities to decrease health disparities with education and information regarding good nutrition and physical activities through community-based health promotion approaches. Theses approaches include outreach, education, peer counseling, and referral and follow-up through a volunteer force.
Goal of CNOP AmeriCorps Program Members:
Identify organizations interested in providing community based public health initiatives
Expand professional development opportunities in service and community based learning
Provide resources and networking opportunities for community organizations, coalitions, and initiatives
CNOP Mission:
To increase public awareness of healthy eating and physical activities, to promote healthy life styles, and to prevent obesity and related chronic diseases.
