Certified Livestock Producer Program

Certification

To be certified, livestock farmers must demonstrate their commitment to the environment, animal well-being, food safety, emergency planning, biosecurity and being a good neighbor in their community. What do these criteria mean to you?

  • Commitment to the environment – Certified Livestock Producers share the concerns of many Hoosiers for the environment. That’s why Certified Livestock Producers go above and beyond to do what’s right.
  • Commitment to animal well-being and food safety - Certified Livestock Producers understand the important responsibility of their position in the food system. They know that their families and the families in their community rely on them to use the best practices to ensure the safety of their food as it continues up the food chain.
  • Commitment to emergency planning - Certified Livestock Producers know that a solid emergency plan can protect people, livestock and the environment.
  • Commitment to biosecurity - Certified Livestock Producers recognize the importance of sanitation and the health of their livestock. Producers meet annually with their veterinarian to ensure a proper health plan is in place.
  • Commitment to being a good neighbor – Certified Livestock Producers respect their neighbors as fellow members of their community. Certified Livestock Producers are considerate of their neighbors’ time and space. These producers ask their neighbors if they have any outdoor activities planned prior to applying manure to the fields. In the winter, Certified Livestock Producers also plow snow from their neighbors’ driveways.
