“As governor of Indiana, I have a deep respect for the strong agricultural tradition of this state. I’m encouraged by what I have seen over the past three years, especially during the past several weeks. This summer’s flooding caused more than $800 million in damages to the agricultural sector, turning what was supposed to be a great year for farmers into an unfortunate string of bad luck. But I am constantly amazed at the incredibly positive attitude and the can-do spirit so present among Hoosiers. Despite damages, Indiana still is blessed with good soil, innovative and hard-working producers and an infrastructure that will allow the agricultural industry to thrive again.”
