Established within the Indiana State Department of Agriculture, the State Soil Conservation Board (SSCB) provides guidance and coordination to the state's 92 Soil and Water Conservation Districts as they provide local leadership in the protection of Indiana's soil and water resources. Additionally, the SSCB administers the Clean Water Indiana Grants Program, a water quality related erosion and sediment reduction program.
The SSCB meets on the second Tuesday of the following months:
These meetings are typically held at ISDA in Indianapolis from 9 a.m. until 1 or 2 p.m. A few times a year the SSCB meets at locations around the state that are determined during the meeting prior.

Responsibilities:
- Appoints supervisors as recommended by Soil and Water Conservation Districts
(SWCDs) and sets policy governing programs of the ISDA Division of Soil Conservation
and the activities of SWCDs.- Assists SWCDs in carrying out programs.
- Provides state appropriated funding for SWCD operations.
- Provides technical assistance to SWCDs through ISDA Division of Soil Conservation
employees.- Builds District Capacity and facilitates information exchange with SWCDs through
SWCD Annual Conference, publications, workshops, and the efforts of the Division
of Soil Conservation conservation program specialists.- Coordinates SWCD programs through advice and consultation.
- Assists in securing federal and state agency help for district programs.
- Administers Clean Water Indiana, a water quality-related erosion and sediment
reduction program.- Has the authority, by law, to develop a regulatory program to be used once voluntary
erosion and sediment reduction approaches have been exhausted.
