Indiana expects to receive the official State Plan in September 2017 (target FirstNet delivery date). When Indiana receives the State Plan the Governor will have 90 days to decide to opt-in or opt-out:
- If Indiana opt-ins, FirstNet and the AT&T will buildout and maintain the network for the state.
- If Indiana decides to opt-out, the state will be required to buildout and maintain the network for 25 years, and secure the appropriate funding to support ongoing operations.
With either decision, public safety agencies need to be prepared and informed of their options once the network becomes available. The Indiana FirstNet team is currently working on preparing materials that will assist agencies in making future broadband decisions. Check back here for these preparedness materials.
