As of June, 2008, 131 SAFE-T communications sites are on the air. More than 40,000 radios from 900 agencies in all 92 Indiana counties are entered into our database. In addition to the original 126-site plan, the SAFE-T buildout map now includes sites contributed by counties as well as sites to be built with federal Public Safety Interoperable Communications grant funds. These additions will increase the number of network sites to 149, resulting in wider and more reliable coverage for Hoosier first responders.
While establishing a platform for voice interoperability remains IPSC's main goal, the system design also allows public safety agencies to make use of technology to access and share data. Mobile data projects have expanded from a couple of agencies to sixteen agencies on the network. There are currently 1045 mobile data user ids in the system.
Project Hoosier SAFE-T continues to develop partnerships with cities, counties, state and federal agencies in pursuing additional grants and site locations as we continue further build out of the system. Examples of these partnerships include the City of Bluffton, Johnson County Commissioners, the Indiana Department of Transportation, Indiana Department of Health/Centers for Disease Control, the Department of Homeland Security, Office of Domestic Preparedness, and Federal and State Emergency Management Agencies.
