IN.gov Redesigns to Focus on Customer

State Agency Websites Coming Soon

IN.gov, the State’s official website, has been redesigned to provide Hoosiers, potential business investors, visitors to our state, and others the ability to easily find the information they need and to learn about initiatives moving Indiana forward.

“This is much more than just putting new paint on an old barn. We’re building something that will make it easier for everyone to interact with our state government--whether they are Hoosiers, visitors to Indiana, or businesses looking to relocate here,” explained Governor Mitch Daniels....

First Group of Agencies Selected for Migration

On May 1st, Director of IN.gov Chris W. Cotterill presented to representatives from the Governor and Lieutenant Governor’s offices along with thirteen other agencies that have been selected to be in the first group of agencies to migrate to the new IN.gov design standards and content management system. Those agencies are: DHS, DWD, FSSA, IAC, IDOA, IEERB, INDOT, ISDA, ISP, OFBCI, OMB, OUCC, & TRF.

Highlights from the presentation (ppt) include:

  • A quick recap of the Goals & Objectives of the project;
  • A review of the new IN.gov Standards; and,
  • More details on the Agency Migration Process.

Subsequent groups are tentatively identified in the presentation; however, IN.gov management will refine those groupings as we learn more about the time frame necessary to migrate agency sites.

Content Updates: Info You Need to Know

Of the 1,500 change request tickets we receive each quarter, the vast majority are requests to make content changes. Since we established metrics for changes in 2006, IN.gov has managed our resources to be able to deliver content changes within three days. We know that’s not fast enough, which is one of the primary reasons we are working with all state agencies to migrate agency websites into the content management system that was selected by our multi-agency selection team.

During the migration to the new system, we are working to increase staffing levels during the next fiscal year to be able to work on both the migrations while continuing to meet our stated goal of no longer than a three-day turn around. This month, we are already seeing our performance against this metric take a hit, and we expect this trend to continue until July when we will add the additional staff for this project.

If you could take the opportunity to appropriately rank the urgency of your request, which is an option on the bottom of our ticket request service at webmasters.IN.gov, it will help us prioritize and deliver to you as fast as we can. We sincerely appreciate your patience over the next couple months.

Other CMS Notes

  • Not sure what all this talk is about redesigning IN.gov? Check out the IN.gov Branding & CMS Project website (with Charter, FAQs, and more).
  • help.IN.gov, presented by the Indiana Department of Administration’s State Information Center, has been recently migrated to the new IN.gov design standards. With its live help, frequently asked questions, and state phonebook, help.IN.gov is essential to IN.gov. This was the next logical step to fully complete the “top level” pages of IN.gov.
  • myLocal.IN.gov and Indiana Office of Technology will be the next sites to be transitioned, with the Governor’s Office and other Group I agencies following soon thereafter.
