IN.gov Update

January 2007

First IN.gov Communicators Advisory Council Meeting

On Tuesday, January 30th at 2pm in IGCS Conf Rm 22, IN.gov staff will hold the first meeting of the IN.gov Communicators Advisory Council. This is an OPEN forum for all state communicators and webmasters. This Council is intended to be a vehicle for communicators and webmasters to hear status updates from the IN.gov staff and advise the IN.gov staff of questions and concerns so that IN.gov can improve.

The agenda of this first meeting includes detailed updates on the 2007 redesign of IN.gov and the implementation of the web content management solution.

Update on IN.gov Redesign/CMS Implementation

Last month, the two committees charged with overseeing the IN.gov redesign, the Leadership and Redesign teams, met jointly to discuss the redesign of IN.gov. Two goals were posed to the teams--the first addressing the Public/External IN.gov customer and the second addressing the Internal IN.gov customer:

  1. Shift to a customer-focused IN.gov by providing up-to-the-minute state government information in a customer-friendly manner
  2. Make it easier for communicators in the state government to update content on IN.gov

The teams debated what it means to have a more “customer-centric” website, and it was generally agreed that a more consistent state website was necessary, but that agency pages are certainly required. A proper balance between the state and agency view must be struck.

The Redesign team was tasked with reviewing and improving upon designs that would be presented to them. The final designs selected by the Redesign team will be implemented, following a review of the implementation plan by the Leadership team.

Director Gives State of IN.gov Presentation

On December 11th, Chris W. Cotterill presented the “State of IN.gov.” The presentation included the mission and vision of IN.gov, the challenges facing IN.gov, the creation of multiple groups to help advise IN.gov staff, and the announcement of the planned IN.gov redesign.

  • Mission: To be the single online source of up-to-the minute state government information and trusted, easy-to-use, “one stop” state services that reduce the cost of doing business with and within state government.
  • Vision: To shift, by the end of 2008, to be a measurably customer-centric portal of state information and services.
