Tobacco

Using tobacco will negatively effect you and your family’s healthy habits. Tobacco doesn't provide anything positive or healthy for you or your family, so perhaps it’s time to kick your tobacco habit or help someone quit! Besides, tobacco use, especially smoking, is the #1 preventable cause of death and disease in the United States. If you continue to smoke, there is a 50% chance you will die early due to your smoking.Everyone who uses tobacco would benefit from quitting. The earlier you quit using tobacco, the greater your chance of reversing the risk of tobacco-related diseases.

  • Nearly 21% of U.S. adults (45.1 million people) are current cigarette smokers.
  • In the United States, 23% of high school students are current cigarette smokers.
  • Each day, about 1,140 persons younger than 18 years of age become regular smokers; that is, they begin smoking on a daily basis.
  • Among adult smokers, 70% report that they want to quit completely, and more than 40% try to quit each year.
