June 2010

INDOT selected Parsons, an engineering consulting firm in Indianapolis, Indiana, to complete the Environmental Assessment and Categorical Exclusions for the proposed improvements of US 50 in Jennings County. The current project will advance two portions of the project that was discussed in the Preliminary Alternatives Screening Report.

One component will address operational problems along US 50 from US 31 in Jackson County to CR 15 North on the west side of North Vernon by improving intersections and adding travel lanes to certain sections of existing US 50.

The second component will improve traffic operation in North Vernon by creating a new link from US 50 on the west side of North Vernon to SR 3 on the north side of the city. This approach will address the principal transportation needs in a fiscally permissible manner and still allow for the completion of a bypass around the east side of North Vernon as a separate project in the future.
