The Indiana Department of Transportation knows the success of a transportation project
depends on an open flow of information between citizens and the project team. This
sharing of data, ideas and concerns leads to transportation solutions that have
broad public support.
The US 31 Kokomo Corridor Project included an extensive public information program
that featured public and stakeholder meetings, a Community Advisory Committee, newsletters,
news releases and this web site.
Public Meetings/Hearings
Public meetings and hearings were held at key stages of the project. The project
reached the conclusion of the environmental study with the publication of the Record
of Decision, which approves the preferred alternative for the corridor. This alternative
was selected through a lengthy process of public and agency input along with detailed
study of traffic, land use and environmental impacts to the corridor. The ROD was
issued after the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS), which details the
preferred alternative and other alternatives considered during the study.

Stakeholder meetings
Throughout the project, local officials, community and business groups, and interested
individuals are welcome to meet with the project team to share information and ideas.
Community Advisory Committee
Throughout the project, INDOT met regularly with a Community Advisory Committee
made up of a diverse group of local citizens to advise the project team on community
concerns and provide feedback on possible alternatives. The group included representatives
of major interest groups, such as business, farming, neighborhoods and the environment.
News releases
The project team distributes news releases to local news outlets to help citizens
stay aware of project milestones and public meetings.
Web site
This web site is the central source of up-to-date information about the project.
It provides project updates, reports, maps, answers to questions and more. Citizens
also can submit comments to the project team on-line using the website comment form.
