Welcome to the State Road 45, Bloomington Project Website

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) plans to improve State Road 45 (E 10th Street in Bloomington) from Pete Ellis Drive to Russell Road. The project is located in Bloomington Township, Monroe County, Indiana.

The purpose of this site is to provide information to interested individuals. Please feel free to explore the site in order to become more familiar with the project. This project spans all stages of development, so check back periodically because new information will be included as it becomes available.

Due to “popular demand” of numerous Bloomington citizens, the Seymour District of INDOT conducted brand new field studies shortly before Christmas, 2008, to see whether a traffic signal is warranted for installation at the State Road 45 intersection with Smith Road under this project and whether the speed limits currently posted (and to remain the same under this project) might be lowered. Under Indiana law, INDOT policy, and standard traffic engineering design criteria, it was found that a signal is not warranted at Smith Road under current and projected traffic volumes and that posted speed limits are appropriate for a state highway.

animated news image(updated 3/24/10):

Due to an extensive "re-racking" process recently completed by INDOT and state of Indiana leadership, the road improvement project on State Road 45 (E 10th Street in Bloomington) from Pete Ellis Drive to Russell Road has been shelved. This means that the scheduled Begin Construction date is now TBD (To Be Determined). This effectively means that the project will not be considered for possible re-activation until 2020 at the earliest.
