Roadway Inventory
| The Office of Technical Services, Roadway Inventory section is responsible for maintaining the roadway inventory system. The inventory includes the functional classification of roads, total mileage, owner and the assets assigned to roadway sections. The section verifies, maintains, and reports mileage per owner to the State Auditor and to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The section is also responsible for maintaining the Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS).
The data and maps created by the Roadway Inventory section are used throughout INDOT for planning and production purposes – mainly for the generation of maps and inventory reports. The information is also annually submitted to FHWA for review through two reports – Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS) and the Mileage Certification Report. Within the Roadway Inventory section, there are three teams – inventory, special projects and HPMS. The inventory team makes updates to the roadway and asset inventory for the state of Indiana. The special projects team runs intricate quality control procedures and assimilation of assets. The HPMS team maintains and runs reports on the HPMS (Highway Performance Monitoring System) data as required by the FHWA. While Roadway Inventory maintains the data for several maps generated throughout INDOT, the section only publishes two maps – urban area boundary (UAB) and functional classification of roads.
