County: St. Joseph
Construction start: 2006
Construction end: 2006
This Major Moves project will improve the intersections of SR 331 and Jefferson Road SR 331 and McKinley Highway. The project includes five lanes on SR 331 and three lanes on Jefferson Road in both directions. On SR 331, this includes three through lanes, a left turn lane and a right turn lane. The three travel lanes on Jefferson Road include one through lane, a left turn lane and a right turn lane.
The additional lanes will improve mobility and safety along this stretch of heavily traveled roadway. More efficient movement of goods and people from the northern end of Mishawaka to the southern end will add to economic development efforts in the area. This is a project that local officials first envisioned in the 1960's and Major Moves is finally making this project a reality.
This extension paves the way for more businesses to come to the area and a good addition for current businesses such as the Hummer assembly plant.
This Major Moves project is currently under construction at a cost of $13.5 million. Both intersections are scheduled for completion by the end of the 2006 construction season.
