Transportation in Indiana: Multimodal Plan Development for the 1990's and Beyond
The purpose of Indiana's transportation system is to move people, goods and freight from one point to another in a safe, efficient and effective manner. This plan is Indiana's first statewide long-range multimodal transportation plan. The primary purpose of this plan is to develop an efficient, effective, and well-integrated multimodal transportation system.
The 1995 Statewide Long-Range Multimodal Transportation Plan provides a policy plan framework for the statewide transportation system addressing all modes of transportation. The 1995 Statewide Plan was adopted by Indiana Department of Transportation Commissioner Stan Smith on December 21, 1994. This policy plan and associated planning studies of the modal transportation systems of highway, aviation, rail, waterway, public transit, bicycle and pedestrian provide a foundation for the development of more specific transportation plans. Many elements of this plan have been updated with more specific studies such as the March 2002 INDOT 2000 to 2025 Long Range Plan, the October 2002 Indiana Rail Plan and the July 1997 INDOT Public Involvement Procedures.
