Benefits of State Employment


Life outside of work


VACATION     Twelve (12) days per year. Fifteen (15) days after 5 years, Twenty (20) days after 10 years, and Twenty-Five (25) days after 20 years of employment.
SICK LEAVE     Nine (9) sick days per year.
PERSONAL LEAVE     Three (3) personal days per year.
HOLIDAYS     Twelve (12) holidays per year.
OTHER PAID LEAVE     Funeral Leave, Jury Duty, Military Leave.
FAMILY LEAVE     Up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave per year for family care, adoption, or childbirth.
COMMUNITY SERVICE LEAVE     Promotes the direct involvement of State employees in public services for their communities through volunteer efforts.


Insurance for you and your family
HEALTH INSURANCE     Several health insurance options are available including Traditional and Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO’s). The State pays 93.5% of the premium.
DENTAL INSURANCE     The state pays 100% of the premium cost.
VISION CARE     The state pays 100% of single coverage and there is a small cost for family coverage.
LIFE INSURANCE     Group term insurance is available up to 150% of salary. Supplemental plans are available as well as dependent life insurance.
SHORT/LONG TERM DISABILITY BENEFITS     The state shares the cost for your participation in the disability plan.


Retirement Plans
PUBLIC EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT FUND     The state pays 100% of the cost. Individual accounts are maintained for each employee. Investment options are available.
DEFERRED COMPENSATION     Investment options that allow salary deferment for tax purposes. The state will match up to $15.00 per pay period.
RETIREMENT     Employees receive full benefits:
  • At age 55 with employee’s age plus years of credible service equal to 85 years or more.
  • At age 60 with 15 or more years of credible service.
  • At age 65 with 10 or more years of credible service.


Additional Benefits
DIRECT DEPOSIT     Direct deposit of payroll checks.
PARKING     Free parking is available at most State facilities.
EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE SERVICES FOR YOU (EASY)     Provides employee and family member support during difficult times either directly by phone or by referral to resources in the community.
STATE VEHICLE     For certain types of positions a state vehicle is provided.
DAYCARE     There is a daycare facility available on the first floor of the Indiana Government Center.
EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE     Tuition reimbursement awarded based upon yearly program funding.
