INDOT - Design Division

  1. Job Description:

    Successful applicant will be responsible for the design and preparation of plans and special provisions for complex road and/or bridge projects, including preparation or Engineering reports and right-of-way plans.

  2. Job Specifications:
    1. Designs road and/or bridge projects.
    2. Performs computations for structural design and various highway elements.
    3. Ensures the technical adequacy and completeness of plans and special provisions.
    4. Utilizes CADD in plan preparation.
    5. Coordinates projects with other divisions, agencies, and the public.
    6. Provides training to engineers and designers.


  3. Job Requirements:
    1. B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering and a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Indiana.
    2. Four years or more work experience in road/bridge design.
    3. Considerable knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
    4. Considerable knowledge of and the ability to apply the provisions of AASHTO Design Specifications, INDOT Design Manual, Standard Specifications, and Standard Drawings.
    5. Ability to (1) solve and communicate technical problems, (2) train engineers and designers, (3) read, interpret, and analyze civil engineering plans, details and specifications.
    6. Good communication Skills
    7. Basic knowledge of CADD operations, capabilities, and potential.
    8. Ability to work cooperatively with INDOT and FWHA personnel, other agencies and the general public.
