An Indiana State Highway employee was killed west of Brookville Monday morning when the mower he was operating overturned, the Franklin County Sheriff's Department said.

The accident remains under investigation and the identity of the victim has not been released. A Franklin County Sheriff said the accident occurred around 9 a.m. near Cummins Road and U.S. 52. The accident is under investigation by Indiana State Troopers and a sheriff's deputy.

Also at the accident scene were EMS 2 from Brookville, EMS 3 from Laurel and the Brookville Fire Department. Brookville firefighters helped set up an emergency landing zone in the yard of a residence for the University Air Care Helicopter from Cincinnati.

An Indiana State Highway employee who was killed Monday in a mowing accident near Brookville has been identified as Michael L. Quinlan, 41, of Brookville, State Police said Tuesday.

Quinlan was pronounced dead at the scene on U.S. 52 about two miles west of Brookville by a doctor who arrived from Cincinnati by University Air Care helicopter, police said.

The accident occurred about 9 a.m. when a tractor Quinlan was operating on the north shoulder of the highway overturned landing on him. Quinlan suffered fatal head injuries, police said.

The accident was investigated by State Troopers. They were assisted by the Franklin County Sheriff's Department and Franklin County EMS, rescue and fire units.
