The 1997 Intermodal Management System Study is focused on developing transportation improvements to link intermodal facilities (ports, rail/truck transfer sites, airports and passenger transportation terminals) to Indiana's portion of the National Highway System. The study developed a statewide geographic information system which was used to identify intermodal facilities and transportation system deficiencies. Two advisory stakeholders committees, a 45 member freight group and a 38 member passenger group, guided the development of the study. The study identified 41 intermodal facilities of national or statewide significance, evaluated and prioritized deficiencies and developed actions and strategies to improve the overall performance of Indiana's transportation system.
