Transportation Long Range Plan

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Long Range Transportation Plan provides a vision for the future development of the INDOT state transportation system. The INDOT Long Range Transportation Plan outlines a strategy for future investments in the state highway system. These investments are intended to provide Hoosiers the highest level of mobility and safety possible and to meet the needs of economic development and quality of life into the next quarter century.

INDOT has updated the Long Range Transportation Plan and integrated the 2030 plan with the Major Moves 2006-2015 construction plan. The INDOT 25-Year Transportation Plan focuses on identifying and prioritizing specific highway expansion projects. Expansion projects are defined as improvements that provide additional capacity to a roadway (e.g. added travel lanes, new road construction, interchange modifications, and new interchange construction). INDOT strives to coordinate and synchronize multiple projects, thereby minimizing disruptions to the traveling public.

INDOT updated the Long Range Transportation Plan for major new road construction, added travel lanes, and new interchange projects to extend the planning time period to the 2030. In carrying out this plan update process, INDOT worked with the state's Metropolitan Planning Organizations in larger cities, Regional Planning Organizations in rural areas, and the six INDOT District Program Development Offices to identify potential new projects and needed revisions to the plan.

Adopted on March 6, 2002 and amended November 12, 2003, This plan supplements, but does not replace the earlier 1995 Statewide Long-Range Multimodal Transportation Plan 1995 Statewide Long-Range Multimodal Transportation Plan by extending the planning process out to 2025.
