2008 National Mental Health Conference Announces Additional Workshops
Indianapolis, Indiana-(April 1, 2008) – The National Mental Health Conference titled, “Unlock the Mystery: Managing Mental Health from Corrections to Community,” is pleased to present 60 concurrent workshops focused on the topics of Mental Health, Substance Abuse, and Sex Offender Treatment. “Unlock the Mystery,” will be comprised of many workshops dedicated to these topics and how they affect and influence a correctional environment as well as the community. Communication Techniques designed to Build Bridges between Mentally Ill Offenders and Custody Staff, taught by James Holwager, Ph.D., is a workshop focused on communication techniques and planning strategies that are designed to assist in building that bridge between mental health and custody professionals.

Stages of Treatment Model, Motivate Treatment, Prevent Burnout, taught by Jennifer Wright, LSW, is a workshop focused on correctly applying the Stages of Treatment/Stages of Change model and increasing client motivation toward rehabilitation while reducing provider burnout in the effort to assist clients with mental health needs achieve wellness and rehabilitation.

In addition to the Mental Health and Sex Offender treatment workshops, a session focusing on the Transitional Living Center in Bermuda will be provided by Sharon Swan, R.M.N., R.N., and Jerry Jennings, Ph.D. The instructors will explain how the Transitional Living Center is a unique rehabilitative program that combines Therapeutic Community and Work Release principles to facilitate successful reintegration into the community for substance abusing offenders.
