Hope this letter finds everyone well and enjoying another beautiful Spring. We are very busy, as usual, and want to extend a thank you to all the Chiefs, Sheriffs and other agency heads that continue to send us guest instructors. I know you have heard it before but we could not do our job without your support. Therefore beginning July 1, 2008 we will be raising our credit hour conversion rate to $25.00 per credit hour and giving agencies 1.5 credit hours for each hour one of your instructors teaches for us.
On the new information front, in their April 21, 2008 meeting the Law Enforcement Training Board passed a new refresher course. This was a result of HB 1105 that was passed in the last legislative session. The Bill has too many changes to try to list here so feel free to look it up on the State's website. In a nutshell, any officer that has been out of law enforcement for more than two years will need to complete refresher training to retain his/her law enforcement certification. If an officer has been out of law enforcement for two to six years they will need to complete a 120-hour course that we are currently developing. There are some exceptions for upper level policy-making positions. So, if you have or are contemplating hiring someone who has been gone from law enforcement for more than two years write me a letter with the following information:
Upon receipt of your letter we will reply with what the person will need to do and how to complete the process.
In closing, we would like to wish you and yours a safe and wonderful rest of the Spring and Summer seasons.
