Earth As Art
The earth is a beautiful thing!
Impressionism. Pointillism. Cubism. These images showcase breathtakingly
bizarre and colorful images, created by mother nature and a high-flying helper.
Mountains, deserts, islands and glaciers become abstract subjects, seen
in brilliant blues, greens and reds from a vantage point more than 400 miles
away.
"Every now and then you have to stop and admire them for
their beauty instead of their science."
- Jon Christopherson, Researcher for the U.S. Geological Survey

The
Earth at Night shows the lights of the world. This is what the
Earth looks like at night. Can you find your favorite country or city?
Surprisingly, city lights make this task quite possible. Human-made lights
highlight particularly developed or populated areas of the Earth's surface,
including the seaboards of Europe, the eastern United States, and Japan.
Many large cities are located near rivers or oceans so that they can
exchange goods cheaply by boat. Particularly dark areas include the central
parts of South America, Africa, Asia, and Australia. |
