What are the steps to participate in the Indiana CLEAN Community Challenge?

As you begin creating a better quality of life for your local community and seek designation as an Indiana CLEAN Community, please keep the following steps in mind:

Step 2:

Appoint an environmental team, or stakeholders, with a leader who has authority to take action, such as a mayor or town council member. Define and record the responsibilities of each team member.

Step 3:

Adopt a mission statement or policy that commits to compliance with environmental requirements and voluntary commitments; pollution prevention; continuous environmental improvement; and sharing of environmental decisions and performance information with the community. The mission statement must be adopted through an executive order, resolution, or ordinance.

Step 4:

Begin recording this information in the form of a quality of life plan. A sample quality of life plan and checklist are available at the following links:

Step 5:

Identify the governmental operations to be included in the quality of life plan such as a waste water treatment plant, drinking water treatment plant, department of public works, solid waste and recycling management, and so on. Contact the corresponding operation directors to ensure they are well informed about the Indiana CLEAN Community Challenge program. Work with your operation directors and management teams to identify the aspects and impacts of each operation included in your quality of life plan.
