Virtual File Cabinet Upgrades

Please be advised that IDEM is in the process of migrating to a new document system for the Virtual File Cabinet. Beginning at Noon on 12/19/2012, if you have any issues with viewing or locating records in the VFC or would like to make a records request please contact the Public Records Office at (317) 232-8667, or via email at "idemfileroom at idem.in.gov".

Welcome to IDEM’s Virtual File Cabinet

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) is pleased to offer Internet access to Agency public records through the Virtual File Cabinet (VFC). The scanning of records continues on a daily basis. IDEM makes every attempt to maintain current and accurate information in this electronic document repository.

The Virtual File Cabinet (VFC) offers a comprehensive Document Search.

Through these search processes many of IDEM’s records can be immediately available for viewing. Other records may require program review which can be initiated by clicking on the “request” button next to the document number. IDEM staff will review the record to determine whether any portion of the record is exempted from public disclosure by the Indiana Access to Public Records Act Indiana Code 5-14-3-4. Following the program review, three (3) things can happen:

  1. The record will be determined to be viewable by the public in its entirety. It will have the same document number and will be changed to “view” rather than “request”.
  2. The record may contain information that is not viewable by the public. A redacted copy of the document will be given a new document number, the disclosable information will be made viewable to the public.
  3. The record in its entirety will not be viewable by the public and will not appear in any future search results. The record will only be viewable by authorized IDEM staff.

Office hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, excluding state holidays. Records obtained through the Public Records Office may be subject to copying fees.
