Chapter 1 - Section III: Other IDEM Divisons

In addition to mandated offices, IDEM’s other divisions include the Offices of Legal Counsel, Criminal Investigations, and External Affairs, as well as administrative offices which are responsible for operational issues. Besides multimedia coordination, federal grant administration and communications, the Office of External Affairs is home to the agency’s departments of Budget and Administration, Community Outreach, Human Resources, Information Technology, Media and Communication Services (MACS), and Purchasing.

Community Relations

IDEM staff are available to deliver presentations, join in partnerships and conduct other activities to help organizations throughout the state while conveying IDEM’s central them of protecting Hoosiers and our environment.

Hoosiers Care

Hoosiers Care is a statewide campaign designed to teach Hoosiers about simple daily actions that you can take to save money and the environment. Each simple step can help improve air and water quality; conserve water and energy; and, reduce waste. The first step is understanding where and how to save. The Hoosiers Care Environmental Impact Calculator shows real-world results for very simple changes, illustrating how much household water, energy, and money can be saved. The Hoosiers Care pledge asks participants to promise to take one easy step to start changing the future.

The Office of External Affairs operates with a budget of approximately $23 million. Over 100 staff members, including regional office support staff, communications specialists, and other management and budget programs are operated through this budget. The Office of Legal Counsel also operates with a $9 million budget with over 60 staff members.
