IDEM > Funding > Pollution Prevention Grant Program Pollution Prevention Grant Program

The Indiana Pollution Prevention (P2) Grant Program is administered by the Office of Pollution Prevention and Technical Assistance (OPPTA) at IDEM. The purpose of the Indiana P2 Grant Program is to encourage pollution prevention activities by increasing source reduction, energy efficiency, and water and energy conservation with measurable results. P2 grants will help Indiana organizations implement pollution prevention activities and continue to promote environmental stewardship throughout Indiana. Measurable results of pollution prevention are at the forefront of the P2 Grant Program.

Is my organization eligible?

Any organization located in Indiana is eligible to apply for P2 grants regardless of type, size, or complexity. Examples of organizations include manufacturers, schools, not-for-profits and communities.

Top

What types of grant requests are eligible?

Examples of eligible P2 grant requests include the following:

  • material substitution,
  • product reformulation,
  • process changes, or
  • in-process recycling of wastes.

P2 grant funding is not suitable for projects that involve waste disposal, recycling, waste treatment, or other activities that do not meet the definition of pollution prevention. Per Indiana Code (see IC 13-27-2-10), expenses such as ongoing program costs, permanent building structures, capital improvement or equipment and site improvements will not be funded through the Indiana P2 Grant Program.

For explanations on P2 grant policies or advice on fundable projects and expenses please contact IDEM's P2 Grant Program Manager.

What is the focus area for P2 projects in 2010?

Indiana has received funding from the US Environmental Protection Agency to reduce the use of toxic chemicals in industry and communities, especially those on the Resource Conservation Challenge Priority Chemicals list and the Regional Priority Chemical list.

As a part of this effort, Indiana will be providing on-site pollution prevention opportunity assessments (P2OA) for facilities in Indiana. These P2OAs will identify potential pollution prevention projects and will be free and entirely confidential. Indiana facilities with pollution prevention projects, including but not limited to those identified by the P2OAs, will be eligible to apply for an Indiana P2 Grant. Projects that reduce or replace the use of any chemical on the Resource Conservation Challenge Priority Chemicals list or the Regional Priority Chemical list (see below) with a less toxic substance will receive additional points toward their overall score when evaluated for funding. Also, projects identified by a P2OA conducted between June 2009 and June 2010 will receive additional points toward their overall score when evaluated for funding.
