The Avery Dennison Decorative Films Division (Avery Dennison) is a paper products facility that has two areas of contamination that have been successfully remediated.  These two areas consist of the xylene management area and the former landfarm area.  Sample results obtained from a phase II investigation of the xylene management area indicated that there had been a release of xylene solvent.  The xylene management area consisted of 21 underground storage tanks used to store technical grade solvents.  The former landfarm area consisted of approximately 300 cubic yards of petroleum contaminated soils that were placed onsite in a land-treatment cell.  These contaminated soils were over-excavated from the neighboring Deep Rock Gas Station property which Avery Dennison purchased in 1972.   Enhanced biodegradation was the selected remedy for these two areas.  Soil and groundwater analyses have demonstrated the success of the selected remedy in achieving the VRP Tier II Non-Residential Cleanup Goals and RISC Industrial Default Criteria.  Details regarding this project can be found in the Remediation Work Plan and Remediation Completion Report.
