Project Summary: Constructed in 1957, the Schumacher Electric previously manufactured electric transformers, fluorescent ballasts, solenoids, and battery chargers. The Schumacher Electric facility was closed in April 2001. A LUST incident number (#198812081) was issued to the site following the closure of four, 550-gallon underground storage tanks (USTs) in 1988. The four USTs, located on the eastern half of the facility in the courtyard area, contained xylene and naphtha. Quarterly monitoring of groundwater commenced shortly after the tank removals and an SVE system was operational from April 2002 until July 2003. A second phase of remediation took place in July 2003 when approximately 1300 pounds of an oxygen release compound (ORC) was injected into the vadose zone. Following over eight quarters of quarterly groundwater monitoring under the supervision of the Voluntary Remediation Program and confirmatory split-sampling, the area of coverage meets the 1996 VRP Tier II nonresidential closure levels. | |
