July 11, 2008: The U.S. EPA. Region 5 has requested Water Quality Certification for two National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) general permits. One general permit, titled General Permit for Discharges Incidental to the Normal Operation of Commercial and Large Recreational Vessels, would authorize discharges from or associated with the operation of commercial vessels and large recreational vessels. A second general permit, titled General Permit for Discharges Associated with Recreational Vessel, would authorize discharges from or associated with the operation of smaller recreational vessels. Both general permits were published in the federal register at 73 FR 34296. U.S. EPA has additional information available on their Web site. Please send any comments related to the effect of these permits on Indiana's water quality (physical, chemical and biological integrity) or suggestions for conditions limiting these effects to:

November 29, 2007: IDEM has issued its Section 401 Water Quality Certification for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Programmatic General Permit for Activities in Public Freshwater Lakes in Indiana. [PDF]
July 2, 2007: The department has modified its Water Quality Certification for the US Army Corps of Engineers' 2007 Nationwide Permits [PDF]. The substance of this modification was to clarify that the 300 linear foot limit applies to alterations of the channel bottom under the Regional General Permit and to alter the conditions on Nationwide Permit 3 to include authorization of the replacement of existing encapsulations with larger encapsulations.
April 24, 2007: The department has issued its Water Quality Certification for the US Army Corps of Engineers' 2007 Nationwide Permits [PDF].
