User Notes

This spreadsheet was designed for use with the RISC Technical Guide Appendix 3 stability monitoring guidelines. The spreadsheet executes the Mann-Kendall trend test** and displays results for one chemical at up to five wells. As stated in the RISC policy, the test should be executed on quarters 0 thru 8, 5 thru 12, 9 thru 16, 0 thru 12, and 0 thru 16. The 7 year evaluation is also executed on the 7 Year tab. The spreadsheet performs these tests and shows results on separate tabs.

  • Except for the 7 Year sheet, data entry is only needed on the Data Entry sheet. Data entry cells are yellow. Calculation sheets are automatically linked and results are sent to this Data Entry sheet. Data entry for the 7 year test is on a separate 7 year sheet. Results from all evaluations are shown under Mann-Kendall Results above. A “stable” result means there is no upward trend at that well. An “expanding” result means that a trend exists at the well. Results are used in conjunction with IDEM policy to assess closure or further action at the site.
  • The 8 quarter evaluations (0-8, 5-12, & 8-16) use an "s" value of 10, which corresponds to a false positive alpha of 10%*.
  • The 12, 16, and 28 (7 year) quarter evaluations use an alpha of 5%.
  • The 12, 16, and 28 quarter evaluations have a 6 duplicate value limit. So, if the same number is entered 7 or more times, the test is invalid.
  • The 12, 16, and 28 quarter evaluations have a 6 duplicate value limit. The test is invalid if the same number is entered 7 or more times.

The user should use the most accurate values possible in order to minimize duplicates.
