The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) has developed a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Pesticides General Permit (PGP) for point source discharges from the application of pesticides to, over or near Waters of the U.S. The PGP will regulate the application of biological and chemical pesticides used for mosquito and other flying insect pest control, aquatic weed and algae control, aquatic nuisance animal control and forest canopy pest control. All eligible pesticide application operators will be required to seek permit coverage once the mandate takes effect on April 9, 2011.
