Resolution
Establishing the Indiana Civil Rights Commission
Education Steering Committee
July 21, 2006
Be it resolved that under the Indiana Civil Rights Law the state is to provide equal opportunity for education for each individual; and
Be it further resolved that education is a civil right; and
Be it further resolved that the Commission is charged with preparing a comprehensive educational program in cooperation with the state Department of Education and the universities and colleges of the state; and
Be it further resolved that the Commission hereby acknowledges its interest in the education of all citizens whether by public or private institutions; and
Be it further resolved that the Commission may create such advisory agencies and conciliation councils as will aid in effectuating the purposes of the Indiana Civil Rights Law; and
Be it further resolved such agencies and councils may make recommendations to Commission for the development of policies and procedures and that such agencies created by the Commission shall be composed of representative citizens serving without pay, but with reimbursement for reasonable and necessary actual expenses; and
Now therefore, the Indiana Civil Rights Commission hereby appoints and establishes the Indiana Civil Rights Commission Education Steering Committee which shall be made up of no fewer than twenty five individuals living in Indiana and may include no more the five non-residents of Indiana.
