Indiana Bicentennial Celebration 2016

Legacy Projects > Gene Stratton-Porter’s 1895 Limberlost Kitchen Gene Stratton-Porter’s 1895 Limberlost Kitchen

This has been a five year project to restore Gene Stratton-Porter’s Limberlost kitchen. It was the only room on the main floor of the historic cabin that has not been restored and was a gift shop for many years. The Friends of the Limberlost raised $10,000 and it was matched by the Indiana State Museum. ISM paid to have a color analysis done for the walls and provided a stove. Gene used the cabin as the home of the Bird Woman in “Freckles,” “A Girl of the Limberlost,” and “The Harvester.”
