Karen Schwartz, president of the Historical Society of Harrison County and a 40-year 4-H leader in Harrison County, has organized a Harrison County Bicentennial Spark Club focusing on the rich heritage of the county, leading up to the state’s 200th anniversary on December 11. Club members will participate in a variety of activities, including walking tours, rich discussions, presentations and projects focusing on the county’s history.

Q&A with Legacy Project Coordinator Karen Schwartz

What do you consider the key accomplishment of your Legacy Project?

  • The Bicentennial Spark 4-H Club, based in the historic William Henry Harrison Log Cabin met successfully on four successive weeks (Monday afternoons) for a variety of pioneer experiences.

Describe a highlight or most memorable moment related to your Legacy Project.

  • The completion celebration was amazing as we danced, sang, performed, learned and shared Indiana cookies and cider in honor of William Henry Harrison's campaign of log cabins and cider.

How/where are you preserving information and artifacts related to your Legacy Project?

  • Information about the club has been included in the recent 4-H Newsletter "Cloverprint," as well as local media including the Banner Gazette, Clarion and Corydon Democrat.
