Indiana Bicentennial Celebration 2016

Legacy Projects > Bloomington Indiana Lions Vision Screening Bloomington Indiana Lions Vision Screening

The focus of the bicentennial celebration is to look back at the past and build for the future for our state. Two ways we can do this are to focus on health and education. Each year we organized and screened thousands of children at local schools. Last year, we screened more than 2,400 children, referring nearly 40% for further evaluation. We work with school nurses to coordinate teams of volunteers, drawn from our club and the community, all of whom receive training hosted at the Salvation Army. The volunteers then go to local schools and conduct initial sight evaluations. Based on this evaluation, we refer children to eye doctors for further testing or treatment. The Bicentennial will be promoted on our informational fliers this year.
