Legacy Projects > Butler Elementary Little Hoosiers Heritage Trail Project Butler Elementary Little Hoosiers Heritage Trail Project

The Butler Elementary Little Hoosiers Club is an after school program comprised of about 25 students and three teacher advisors that studies local and state history. The students and teachers have led the way in the establishment of DeKalb County’s first Heritage Trail to celebrate the Bicentennial that will select, research and mark significant people, places and events from the county and state’s past annually with professional designed interpretive markers. Through the process, the students learn research, math, geography, and writing skills while exploring the county and state’s colorful past, and utilize their research to create the finished installed historical markers to be erected throughout eastern DeKalb County.
