Legacy Projects > Honoring Theodore Dreiser – An Indiana Treasure Honoring Theodore Dreiser – An Indiana Treasure

Art Spaces, in partnership with Vigo County Public Library, will celebrate a world-renowned Indiana writer, Theodore Dreiser, through a public outdoor sculpture. Dreiser is known as the “Father of American Realism” is worthy of consideration, increased awareness and lasting recognition. Many American writers credit his courageous and groundbreaking approach to writing with paving the way so that they were later able to portray character and social experience with honesty and fairness. The chosen site is a prominent downtown location at the library, adjacent to the Arts Corridor, where it will be freely accessed by people of all ages at all times. Ongoing programs will engage audience of many ages, foster new writing and community dialogue, and renew awareness and understanding of Dreiser and the lasting legacy of his works. The sculpture will become part of Terre Haute’s growing Cultural Trail which now includes sculptures honoring both Max Ehrmann and Paul Dresser.
