Legacy Projects > Honoring our Hometown Hero, John Wooden Honoring our Hometown Hero, John Wooden

In May 2016, Martinsville will celebrate its most famous native son, John Wooden, with a series of middle school presentations by Barbara Olenyik Morrow, author of the recently published biography, Hardwood Glory: A Life of John Wooden. Ms. Morrow will also deliver a public lecture on the legendary college basketball coach and motivational speaker. Ms. Morrow’s school presentations will not only give students an overview of Wooden’s life, but will discuss how solid research requires “digging” and footwork rather than solely reading information via the internet. She will explain how students must read with a critical eye, provide “context” when writing biography and highlight the importance of details.
