Bicentennial Baby Caps

Through the Boone County Bicentennial Committee, Boone County Senior Services, Inc. (BCSSI) received funding from Witham Health Services (WHS) to provide the WHS Maternity Department with baby caps for the projected number of 500 newborn babies expected to be born at WHS in 2016. With the funds, BCSSI partnered with a local yarn shop to purchase and package kits which include all the supplies needed to make up to 500 baby caps including a badge which designates the Bicentennial year and Legacy Project status.

October 2015 Commission Meeting

The Indiana Bicentennial Commission held the October 2015 meeting at the Indiana State Library in Indianapolis.

Fox Ridge Nature Park

On November 1, 2015 Gov. Mike Pence joined members of the Bicentennial Commission and the Knox County Parks & Recreation Department today to officially dedicate the recently acquired Fox Ridge Nature Park northeast of Vincennes. The 95-acre former golf course property includes more than 2 miles of paved cart paths that will be developed into walking and biking trails. Pence announced that the Department of Natural Resources has awarded a $200,000 Land & Water Conservation Fund grant to expand trails, install native tree and prairie plantings, and develop public fishing facilities for two ponds at the new park.

State Park Centennial Kickoff

Indiana's first two state parks, McCormick's Creek State Park and Turkey Run State Park, were officially dedicated on December 16, 1916. On this date in 2015, Indiana State Parks launched the "Countdown to 100" - a yearlong celebration of our state park system. The event began at McCormick's Creek with a public breakfast, a ceremony with comments from dignitaries, and a walk to McCormick's Creek Falls and the Civilian Conservation Corps. Recreation Hall. At noon, a press and public event was held in the Statehouse Rotunda featuring announcements centennial events and projects, comments from dignitaries, and interactive tables representing our living natural resources, history, and property facilities and locations. In the afternoon, a public ceremony was held at Turkey Run State Park with comments from dignitaries, a walk to the Juliet Strauss sculpture and the Lieber Memorial, and a sunset toast at Sunset Point. The day ended with a meal served in the dining room at Turkey Run Inn.
