The Standardbred Breed Development program was established to promote the Indiana Standardbred industry. This program, funded by the Standardbred Breed Development Fund, is used to further the Indiana Standardbred industry while stimulating the agri-business sector of the State's economy. Twenty percent (20%) of the riverboat admission tax (.65) allocated to the racing industry is distributed to the Breed Development Funds. The Breed Development Fund is divided forty-eight percent (48%) to the Standardbred Breed Development Fund, forty-eight percent (48%) to the Thoroughbred Breed Development Fund and four percent (4%) to the Quarter Horse Breed Development Fund. In addition, all breakage and unclaimed tickets are distributed equally between this fund and the Thoroughbred Breed Development Fund. The Standardbred Breed Development Advisory Committee is appointed by the Governor to advise the Indiana Horse Racing Commission in the distribution of these monies. This Advisory Committee works closely with Hoosier Park, Indiana Downs, the Indiana Standardbred Association, Indiana Standardbred Advisory Board, and other horsemen organizations to develop the Standardbred Breed Development Program. This program has become an invaluable tool in developing and maintaining the fast growing high quality Standardbred industry in the State of Indiana.
