Governor appoints Purdue trustees

INDIANAPOLIS (July 28, 2006) - A woman who is the managing partner of a grain and commercial warehousing business and another who is the chief executive officer of an Arizona institute for women leaders have been named by Governor Mitch Daniels as members of the Purdue University Board of Trustees.

JoAnn Brouillette, of West Lafayette, managing partner of Demeter LP, a family-owned grain and commercial warehouse business in Fowler, and Susan Butler, of Tucson, Arizona, CEO of The Susan Bulkeley Butler Institute for the Development of Women Leaders are the board's newest members. Their terms begin immediately.

"JoAnn and Susan are outstanding results-oriented business leaders. Both will help President Jischke push Purdue to reach even higher performance and strengthen the university's impact in Indiana and around the world," said Daniels.

Brouillette is a member of the President's Advisory Committee for Trade Policy, Indiana Agriculture Advisory Committee, and the National Grain and Feed Association executive committee and board of directors and is the vice chair of the Lafayette-West Lafayette Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. Brouillette received her undergraduate degree from Hanover College.

Butler retired from Accenture in 2002, where she had been the company's first female partner. By the end of her tenure she was managing partner for the office of the chief executive officer, the president of Accenture Foundation, and a member of the company's executive committee. She is the author of Become the CEO of You, Inc.: A pioneering Executive Shares her Secrets for Career Success. She is a Purdue Krannert School of Management graduate and was awarded an honorary doctorate in 1999. She also serves on the Purdue Research Foundation Board, the dean's advisory council at Krannert, and is a past president of the university's president's council.

Terms for Brouillette and Butler expire July 1, 2009. The two replace Barbara Edmondson of Clayton and Robert Peterson of Rochester, whose terms expired on July 1.

Earlier this summer, Dr. Michael J. Birck of Hinsdale, Illinois, was re-elected by Purdue Alumni Association members for a term on the board.

This is the second set of appointments Daniels has made to the 10-member board. In 2005, he reappointed Mamon Powers of Gary and selected Bill Oesterle of Indianapolis and student trustee Rachel Cumberbatch of Lebanon.
